My New Blog The good news about the european financial problems May 20th, 2010 9:28 AM The European financial "crisis", "meltdown" or whatever term you want to use does have some benefits to the U.S..  The first is a flight to quality that has brought down rates of U.S. Treasuries.  This has translated to lower mortgage rates as well.  A second positive for the U.S. is a strengthening dollar.  As the Euro has dropped in value the Dollar has risen.  This helps control inflation in the U.S. and actually lowers the cost of foreign made products.  My fear is that if government spending is not reduced, the U.S. will face the same problems Greece and other european countries are dealing with today.
